Synopsis
London adores a beautiful face. Dorian Gray is about to discover what it can conceal.
When artist Basil Hallward paints his portrait, Dorian sees a youth too perfect to lose. Under the spell of Lord Henry Wotton, he makes a reckless wish: let the painting grow old while he remains untouched.
Then he breaks the heart of a young actress, Sibyl Vane, and a cruel line appears on the painted mouth. His own face is unchanged.
Behind a locked door, the portrait begins to bear the marks of a life London cannot see. Dorian moves through glittering drawing rooms and opium-haunted streets, pursuing sensation while whispers gather around the people he destroys. Years pass. He stays young. The face on the canvas becomes harder to look at.
But beauty cannot silence every witness. As the past closes in and Basil asks what has become of the man he once knew, Dorian must face the secret he has hidden upstairs—and the terrible price of keeping it.
